PhotoConcierge and Lensational, in an exclusive collaboration in India, have teamed up with the aim to advance Lensational’s mission to empower women in developing countries through photography. Lensational, through its worldwide network, will create content and use PhotoConcierge’s market place to showcase and sell this content.

The key objectives of the collaboration are to give a social value to photography and to make women from marginalised communities economically independent by providing a platform to showcase, promote and sell their photographs.

“At PhotoConcierge, we believe in the power of pictures to move the world, and we are excited to collaborate with Lensational on their journey to support, empower and amplify new and important voices,” said Shefalii Dadabhoy, Co-founder PhotoConcierge.

Speaking about the collaboration, Bonnie Chiu, Co-founder & CEO of Lensational, said: “We are excited to partner with PhotoConcierge following our encounter with them at the Chennai Photo Biennale 2016. We believe our partnership will bring the much-needed gender and ethnic diversity to stock photography. This will also result in extra income for the marginalised women and girls that Lensational works with across nine developing countries, from India to Kenya.”

Lensational believes that photography can support the empowerment of women on two levels: emotional and economic empowerment. 50% of revenue from photography sales go directly back to the women photographers; and 50% to Lensational to expand its work. Since March 2013, Lensational has conducted photography training benefiting 300 women across nine developing countries, including Indonesia, the Philippines, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, led by a team of 60 volunteers across 18 countries.

In January 2016, Lensational provided photography training to women with Down Syndrome and government school girls in Chennai, India. Their photos were exhibited in the Tiruvanmiyur Metro Station, which has a footfall of 10,000 per day; and the exhibition was part of the Chennai Photo Biennale, an international photography festival sponsored by the Goethe Institut.
